As a pet lover you want the best for your dog, and it’s therefore important to look out for health problems that affect their quality of life. As with humans, Arthritis can be a common problem in animals and it can be very debilitating. It often results in pets becoming less active and it is commonly mistaken for old age.
So how do you spot arthritis? Dogs can’t tell you what’s wrong with them, so it’s vital to watch for clues and take subtle changes in behaviour seriously.
Here are some tips for spotting Arthritis in Dogs.
Your dog may begin to have difficulty sitting or standing
Your dog maybe less active than usual
You may notice attitude or behavior changes
Your dog may put on weight
Your dog may sleep more
Your dog may seem less alert
Your dog may be hesitant to climb stairs, run or jump
Your dog may whimper because it’s joints are stiff and painful
Treating Arthritis
Try to ensure your dog has a healthy diet and gets enough exercise. This helps to maintain their proper weight.
Speak to your vet. He or she maybe able to recommend a course of treatment to ease the discomfort for your dog. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are a common form of treatment for arthritis in dogs.
Foods rich in Omega Fatty Acids are proven to relive the symptons.
